Mechanics

With 5 corrupted items equipped, (not counting corrupted jewels or gems): 50% of chaos damage does not bypass energy shield and 50% of physical damage bypasses energy shield. If the character has insufficient energy shield, then the remainder of the non-bypass damage will still be taken from life.

Though the description of damage bypassing is similar to or , Corrupted Energy functions differently. Corrupted Energy requires the character to be hit for the effect to take place. For this reason, it has no effect with damage over time.^{[citation needed]}

For example, if the character is bleeding (a damage over time), energy shield will absorb the physical damage over time caused by bleed before it is applied on life.

If the character is taking chaos damage over time (eg. poisoned, positioned on desecrated ground or caustic ground), the damage will be applied directly on life.
