Icestorm is only available through The Whispering Ice.

As with Jaws of Agony, support gems do not have to be linked together in order to apply to the innate skill Icestorm. This means a 6 socket Whispering Ice with no links is just as effective for modifying the effect of Icestorm as a 6 linked Whispering Ice.

Skill Functions and Interactions

Empower/Enlighten/Enhance: Due to Icestorm being an innate property on The Whispering Ice, enhance, enlighten, and empower do NOT effect Icestorm. If socketed, the increased level will apply to the support gems, but the support gems abilities will not effect Icestorm.

Totem, Mine, Trap: Ice Storm can be supported by Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Spell Totem", Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Trap", Module Error: No skills found with q_where = skill.active_skill_name="Remote Mine".

Area of Effect: Increased AoE will increase both the area in which the ice shards randomly fall and also the radius of the individual ice shard damage. Full spell damage is done at any point within the AoE of a shard, however due to the fact that enemies take up an area, and not simply a point, less spell damage is dealt to any given enemy as area increases. This is why, contrary to popular belief, increasing the AoE of Icestorm decreases the average number of hits to single target.

Duration: Increasing duration with either supports or passives will increase the total number of iceshard that fall before the spell ends. Additionally, the length of time the chilled ground remains also increases or decreases.

Damage Effectiveness: Damage from secondary sources like 'added damage' supports or heralds applies at only 30% of their listed value.

Damage per Second: Due to the complexity of estimating actual DPS of the skill including all possible factors, ingame tooltip shows only average damage per hit of one ice shard, with actual DPS of the skill being considerably higher. The closest currently available estimate can be obtained by using the damage calculator.
