Path of Exile Wiki

In the game's lore, The Karui Way has several gods that are representative of or rule over various aspects of the world.

Arohongui[]

Arohongui, Daughter of the Moon, is only referenced in Arohongui, Moon's Presence, a notable Ascendancy passive skill for the Chieftain. All of the Chieftain's other notable Ascendancy passive skills are named after Karui gods, so it's probably safe to assume that Arohongui is one as well.

Hinekora[]

Dialogue[]

  • Upon entering The Ship Graveyard, the Marauder says, "Hinekora, Mother of the Dead, is this your land I walk upon?"
  • Occasionally the Marauder will shout "Go to Hinekora!" after killing a rare monster.
  • Navali's "Karui Gods" dialogue option begins "Hinekora, my Mother of Death, is not the only god, exile."
  • Navali's "Yama the White" dialogue option says in part, "Yama the white, my furry companion, stood before me with the Seeing Stone he holds now. Both were given hair of Hinekora's dark knowledge..."
  • Navali's Lioneye's Watch introduction says in part, "But it is not my fate to return to the Mother of Death just yet. For now I stand with one foot in this world, and the other foot in the realm of the dead."
  • Navali's "Wraeclast" dialogue option says in part, "I am but a memory of the woman I was. A memory treasured and sustained by the Mother of Death."

Kitava[]

Dialogue[]

  • It appears that the Marauder regards The Beast in Act 4 to be the god Kitava:
    • Upon entering The Aqueduct, the Marauder says, "'Follow a dead river to the foot of Kitava's kingdom.' Just how the elders at home told it."
    • Upon entering The Mines Level 1, the Marauder says, "I walk in your kingdom, Kitava, and I am coming for you."
    • Upon entering The Mines Level 2, the Marauder says "Kitava's belly rumbles. He is hungry for me."
    • Upon entering The Belly of the Beast, the Marauder says, "The way to a god's heart is through his guts."
    • Upon killing Malachai, The Nightmare, the Marauder says, "Do you hear me, Kitava?! Your champion is dead, and your kingdom dies with him!"
  • Navali's "Karui Gods" dialogue option concludes, "And in the final days of this world, Kitava, whose hunger know no bounds, will take it all away."
  • Haku's "The Karui Way" dialogue option says in part, "Yet the Ancestors cannot tell me how Kitava's tyranny might end. Only that it will, if we who still can, stand against Him. It is in this hope that I choose to live. Hope is my fortress, and from it I wage war against Kitava's slaves."
  • Haku's "Kaom" dialogue option says in part, "Kitava, God of Corruption, consumed Kaom from heart to skin. Kaom became the greatest of Kitava's slaves when he abandoned his people to serve himself."
  • Haku's "Kitava" dialogue option says, "It is Kitava who rules this place. His Black Spirit is everywhere, in the claws that draw our blood, in the minds of those men and women who... would eat of our flesh. At first I thought it was Kaom who led the God of Corruption to this land. No. Kitava was already here, and he remains here still. A cannibal, feasting on the corpse of Wraeclast. He awaits us all, growing fat in the darkness of Wraeclast's blackened heart."
  • Haku's "The Karui and Wraeclast" dialogue option says in part, "Though the signs led me to believe that it was the Eternals who invited Kitava into Wraeclast, we Karui had a hand in humanity's downfall here. ... So we must right the wrongs of our past, and wake this land from Kitava's nightmare. Only then will the debt be repaid."
  • Haku's "Catarina, Master of the Dead" dialogue option says, "Catarina is Kitava's slave, preparing pretty feasts for a cannibal God."
  • When Haku reaches level 5, he says in part, "Had I the tools at hand, I would carve the mark of Kitava, Father of Chaos, into your flesh."

Environmental Lore[]

  • A Weathered Carving in Kaom's Dream, says in part, "We crushed the servants of Kitava beneath our heels as we marched across the land."
  • A Weathered Carving in Kaom's Stronghold says in part, "The Eternals opened the gate and invited Kitava into this land. The Karui paid the price. Kitava cut us off from the Ancestors, raised the remembed as His children, tortured our dreams. Kitava murdered the Karui Way. I will found a new Way, for I have been chosen. I gather my forces so that I might wage war on Kitava."
  • Another carving in Kaom's Stronghold says in part, "Kitava has soaked this land in his filth.... Your spirits will fight by my side when we march against Kitava."

Ngamahu[]

Dialogue[]

  • Navali's "Karui Gods" dialogue option says in part, "Ngamahu lends us fire, which illuminates the path."
  • When Haku reaches level 4, he says, "Were you and I now in my homeland of Ngamakanui, I would mark your skin with the honour of Ngamahu, Mother of Fire. It is she who lights the fire in the belly of the warrior, and it is your duty to nurture that fire, to fuel it with the timber of battle until it burns so brightly, that it blinds the eyes of your enemies and sears their fearful hearts."

Environmental Lore[]

  • Another Weathered Carving in Kaom's Dream says in part, "The blood of the Ancestors surged in our veins and each and every one of my warriors earned Tukohama's mark upon their skin. We descended into the heart of Wraeclast, and there He came to me. Tukohama. He asked of me a sacrifice. I gave it willingly. My axe fell five hundred times, the jade drinking its fill of Karui blood. Tukohama was pleased."
  • A Weathered Carving in Kaom's Stronghold says in part, "I am the son of Tukohama, and I will lead the Karui back to glory."
  • Another Weathered Carving in Kaom's Stronghold says in part, "You will be given in service to Tukohama."
