Map Device

The Map Device is a world object that allows the player to access certain areas by placing items such as maps, map fragments, or other map-related items inside it.

Accessing the Map Device

Eternal Laboratory Map Device

The first Map Device the player encounters is located in The Chamber of Sins Level 1 in Act 7 to use Maligaro's MapMaligaro's Map"Certain maps can only be rendered in the most vivid of viscera."
- Inquisitor Maligaro to enter Maligaro's Sanctum. Another Map Device is located in the Templar Laboratory in the Epilogue.

By gaining enough master reputation with Zana, Master Cartographer to reach level 2, the player will also be given a placeable Map Device for the hideout. Unlike other map devices, this device will also grant a 1% boost to item quantity, based on Zana's level.

Mechanics

The Map Receptacle interface

In order to activate the device maps, map fragments, or miscellaneous map items, it need to be placed inside the Map Receptacle. Generally only one item is required, but for map fragments it is required to have a combination of matching fragments to open an area.

It is also possible to place map fragments in addition to one map item in order to receive a bonus to item quantity.

When the Map Device is activated, six portals to the map area are opened. Each portal can only be used once, and will be closed once the player exits the area. Opening a new portal inside the map will only move the entrance point to that position, instead of creating a brand new portal.

Miscellaneous Map Items

These items can be used on a Map Device to instance an area, but are neither maps nor map fragments.
