Molten Burst

Molten Burst is a projectile area of effect attack skill granted exclusively by . It is similar, in both mechanics and appearance, to the projectile portion of .

Mechanics

Molten Burst can only be triggered by the character's own melee hits, as opposed to those of his minions or totems. Molten Burst can be supported by applicable support gems socketed in Ngamahu's Flame; it is not necessary for the sockets to be linked. Molten Burst is not a skill gem, therefore it cannot be supported by , , or .

Skill functions and interactions

Coverage: Projectiles are spread randomly over a 270° circular area within a radius of 5 to 20 units around the initial target struck. AoE modifiers affect both the explosion area of individual projectiles as well as the area they spread.

Overlapping: It is possible for multiple projectiles to hit the same enemy, dealing overlapping damage. However the chance to hit the initial target is considerably reduced due to the deadzone around it.

Pierce, Fork, and Chain: Molten Burst projectiles cannot pierce, fork, or chain, since they are ground-targeted.

Multistrike: Molten Burst cannot be supported by .

Cooldown - Molten Burst has a base cooldown of .15 second.

Trigger - When off cooldown, 20% of melee attack hits will trigger Molten burst. Therefore attacks not socketed in the weapon will trigger molten burst. Molten Burst can cause things to trigger on hit like . Therefore it can be both triggered by other attacks and cause triggers itself.

Interactions - Because molten burst can trigger things from attacks without needing to use an attack socketed in it, it can allow for players using to have up to 2 linked skills triggering damage. One for the attack they use manually and one for the molten burst that triggers. The molten burst will take longer than cast on critical strike outside of it does, so using it with a skill that gets cast less often in a build can take advantage of the timing. For example in a bladefall/bladeblast build, is cast less often and therefore will be socketed in the molten burst setup which triggers less often.
