An Orb of Fusing is a currency item that can be used to re-roll the links between sockets on a weapon or piece of armour. The colour and number of sockets remain unchanged.

Obtaining

Orbs of Fusing are uncommon currency items that can be dropped by slain monsters, chests, and destructible containers. They also drop from Arcanist's Strongboxes.

Spending

Orbs of Fusing are primarily used to modify the linked sockets on an item. If an item has some quality, using an Orb of Fusing on that item will "consume" the quality (setting it to 0%) in exchange for increasing the chances of creating more links. While the chance of obtaining three or four linked sockets is relatively high, the chance of obtaining five or six linked sockets is very low, and on average requires hundreds or even thousands of attempts. The probability of obtaining six linked sockets is very close to 1/1500, meaning that for risk-averse players it is generally worthwhile to use the Artisan's Bench instead of using Orbs of Fusing manually.

It is also known that consuming a 20% quality item will greatly improve the chance of obtaining six linked sockets (at least double and reportedly as high as four times the chance), so it likely better to manually use Orbs of Fusing when making links on a normal item since it only requires 4 Armourer's ScrapArmourer's ScrapStack Size: 40Improves the quality of an armourRight click this item then left click an armour to apply it.
