A Sextant is a currency item that can be used on a Watchstone to add a special modifier to all the maps on the region where the Watchstone is socketed.

Mechanics

Sextants are used to add a random enchantment mod to a Watchstone on the Atlas of Worlds. This effect will be applied to any map in that region that is activated while the enchanted Watchstone is socketed into its region. Like most items, Watchstones can only have at most one enchantment on them at a time: Using a Sextant on a Watchstone that is already enchanted will reroll the existing mod, even if the new Sextant is of a lower rarity than the old mod's was.

Each Sextant mod lasts a total of three uses (four with the Enduring Influence Atlas passive skill from The Uncharted Realms) of maps activated within the region, after which it disappears.

As identical Sextant effects do not stack, only one Watchstone in that region with the duplicate mod will have its uses deducted. Since up to four Watchstones may be socketed into a Watchstone Altar at a time, each region can be affected by up to four Sextants at once.

Sextants come in four variants of increasing rarity. While the first three drop randomly from monsters like other currency items, the Elevated Sextant only drops from The Maven herself (not her Invitations).

Modifiers

Each variant of Sextant has its own pool of modifiers that they can apply to maps. Naturally, the rarer the sextant, the higher the quality of modifiers it can apply. Some modifiers spawn on all three basic Sextants types, some modifiers are exclusive to Prime and Awakened Sextants, and some spawn only on the latter. There is currently only one modifier that spawns exclusively on Prime Sextants.[1]

The Sextant mod "Area has additional packs of monsters that convert" will put traitorous totems in the map that give players and their minions beneficial auras after they have been defeated.

  • Sextant mods no longer appear on maps they cannot apply to.
  • Sextants can be used on an Atlas map that already has a sextant mod. This will reroll a new Sextant mod in its place.
  • In addition to disabling or upgrading sextants that were not rewarding or impactful enough, we're also adding a large number of new sextant effects. These new sextant effects perform a variety of roles: Some reward players for playing specific types of maps, some mitigate the effects of some of the more dangerous or restrictive map mods, some add new effects that increase your speed or damage while increasing the map's challenge, and others add interesting new monsters to slay.

The following Sextant mods can no longer be rolled:

  • Items dropped by Unique Boss are Corrupted
  • Players and Monsters have increased Damage per Curse on them
  • Players and Monsters have increased Critical Strike Chance
  • Maps have an additional random Property
  • Areas contain Forsaken Masters
  • Randomly dropped Items are Normal instead of Magic
  • Living Weapons
  • Players and Monsters take increased Damage while stationary
  • While on Elemental Ground, Players have increased Damage of the associated Damage Type
  • Strongbox contents are Mirrored
