Temporal incursions are short-duration visits to the past.

After completing No Time like the Present, Alva Valai will have a chance to spawn in most zones, allowing the player to enter three Incursions - There will be three seperate entrance points throughout any map she spawns in. She does not spawn in side areas or if the zone is more than 10 levels lower than the level of the player.[1] Alva can also appear in maps. You can guarantee Alva to spawn by using an Atlas Mission.

Each time players encounter Alva Valai in the wilderness, she can open a time portal, allowing a visit to an incursion room in the ancient Vaal Temple of Atzoatl during its construction.

During the Incursion League, she would appear in almost every zone, but would only allow access to one Incursion per zone as opposed to the current three.

Incursion rooms

Main page: incursion room

Players have a short time, initially 10 seconds, to spend in each temporal incursion. During this time, they can (in descending order of priority):

  • Kill one of two Vaal Architects who guide the temple's construction. This will either change the room in the present-day Temple of Atzoatl to a different type with different features, or upgrade it to the second or third tier of the same room for better loot. Damaging the Architect does not extend the incursion duration.
  • Pick up a Stone of PassageStone of PassageThis item can be placed into an Altar of Passage to create a connection between two adjacent rooms in the Temple of Atzoatl. This item will drop on the ground when leaving an Incursion. that drops as loot and use it to open one of the locked (red) doors. This will open the corresponding passage in the present-day Temple of Atzoatl, allowing the player to access more of the dungeon.
  • Kill monsters to extend the incursion duration and gain loot. The loot will drop all at once after the end of the incursion.

Notes: You cannot get the same incursion room more than once in one zone. To maximize the chances of fully upgrading a specific room, you will have to run multiple incursions over extra encounters.

Temple of Atzoatl

After 12 incursions, the completed Temple of Atzoatl dungeon can be entered and looted. Which rooms are accessible and what they contain depends on the player's actions during the incursions.

You can also select "Take Temple Chronicle" to itemize the completed Temple of Atzoatl into a Chronicle of AtzoatlChronicle of Atzoatl"Grand plans were laid for a place called Atzoatl, though fierce bickering between its Architects is said to have stifled its development." - Icius Perandus, Antiquities Collection, Research ReportCan be used in a personal Map Device to open portals to the Temple of Atzoatl in the present day., which can be used to open an instance to that Temple of Atzoatl using a map device. You must be able to access a map device to use this function.

Version history

Version Changes
  • Alva can now convert your completed and ready-to-run Temple of Atzoatl into an tradeable object that can be consumed in the Map Device. You will need access to the Map Device to use this convert function.
  • The "Monsters Killed" progress bar in Temporal Incursions has been updated slightly, to make it easier to see if you have killed all of the Monsters in the Incursion.
  • Fixed a bug where leaving a map where Alva was present for an extended period of time could prevent you from doing any remaining Incursions when you returned.
  • Fixed a bug where dying in a map where Alva was present could under certain circumstances prevent you from doing any remaining Incursions when you returned.
  • It now requires 12 separate Incursions to enter the Temple of Atzoatl in the present (up from 11). This gives you an extra attempt to upgrade or change a room before you enter the Temple with Alva.
  • Reintroduced to the game as a core mechanic.
