I saw the fabric of creation in its most primordial form. I felt the templars grip loosen and slip away. I lay there, in the emptiness between worlds, for an eternity. Then, for the first time in my life, I truly awoke.

The Shaper

The Uber Elder is a dual boss encounter where the player fights both the Elder and the Shaper at the same time. It is the final boss encounter in the War for the Atlas expansion. However, that end-game storyline was retired and replaced by the Conquerors of the Atlas. According to the Conquerors of the Atlas game lore, the Elder was slain by the Elderslayers led by Sirus, Awakener of Worlds, and was removed from the Atlas. Players can still fight Uber Elder using the map fragments, but do not need to chase the Elder and Shaper across the Atlas anymore. These map fragments can be obtained by defeating the Shaper and the Elder.

The Uber Elder is considered to be one of the most difficult boss encounters in Path of Exile, as players are pitted against both The Elder and The Shaper simultaneously. Players must be very careful to place the Shaper's Vortex portals around the edges of the arena failing which the entire arena will littered with permanent vortices that cause heavy damage over time. Players have to also avoid the Elder's Ring of Death and the Shaper Beam and Projectiles, all of which can be deadly if not dealt with properly.

The encounter has no phases, however, one of the bosses will be invulnerable, and this will alternate between the two bosses every time the player damages the vulnerable boss for 25% of his health. Zana Caeserius does not assist the player during this fight, unlike both the Elder and the Shaper encounters where she is present and provides various defensive abilities.

The Uber Elder can drop one of the most valuable items in the game, a 3-mod with highly variable value depending on the random mods it has, being worth potentially hundreds of s if its 3 mods work extremely well together. Such items are highly valuable because they are unique, cannot be duplicated or replicated, and cannot be crafted by players.

Entry

Players must use the following fragments in their map device to fight Uber Elder (Elder and Shaper). These fragments can be obtained by defeating The Shaper and The Elder, and can also be traded amongst players.

The arena is the same as the Absence of Value and Meaning, but the character first enters The Shaper's Realm, and then takes a portal to the final arena. The arena and staging areas are in the same instance.

Recommendations

The following is recommended:

• Mastery of the mechanics of The Elder and The Shaper (fight both of them independently till you can do it deathless)
• At least 10 million damage per second (rolling over your main attack ability should show 100K+, because Path of Exile cannot calculate DPS properly)
• A method to increase damage against unique enemies (such as Assassin's Mark for critical strike-based builds)
• Capped elemental resistances (fire, cold and lightning resistance at 75%)
• At least 8,000 Effective hit points (Life pool)
• High life regeneration or energy shield regeneration to combat the Shaper Beam and Vortex portals
• At least 20% block or evade chance, or Mana before Life defenses

The following is optional:

• can increase your defensive ability if you keep dying (spellcaster and ranger builds only)
• can increase your defensive ability if you keep dying (melee builds only)

Attacks

The Elder is assisted by the Shaper in this battle. The battle essentially pits the player against both bosses, with some differences:

• One of the bosses will be invulnerable, alternating between the two for every 25% health lost. The invulnerable boss will use less attacks than normal. When both bosses are at 25% health, both bosses will be vulnerable.
• Volatile Anomalies and Madness Propagators will continuously spawn during the fight, alternating every 20 seconds.
• There are no special phases from either boss.
• At each 1/4 health lost from both bosses, the Elder or Shaper will spawn additional monsters.
  • The Elder will summon multiple Null Portals
  • The Shaper channels a monster portal like in his regular fight. Both are invulnerable during this phase.
• The Elder does not use his Super Siphon attack or the debuff Crystalised Fear
• The Shaper does not use his Shadow Clone or Bullet Hell attack.

If a Watcher's Eye drops, it will have 3 mods. The mods are random; it is possible to obtain a Watcher's Eye with 3 mods for the same aura skill (extremely valuable), as well as 3 mods for 3 different skills (less valuable).

It can also drop , even if The Maven is not present and observing the fight.

Version history

3.9.0	The Elder and Shaper were defeated by Sirus and the Elderslayers and are no longer part of the Atlas. Players no longer have to chase the Elder and the Shaper across the atlas in order to fight them. The fight can now be accessed using the map fragment set.
3.2.0	Introduced the final Elder encounter. This endgame encounter is the single most difficult challenge Path of Exile currently has to offer. Good luck! No longer immune to Taunt, though they may not retarget based on being taunted. The Elder in his Unstable phase can no longer be slowed below their base speed. The Elder's Unstable phase is now more difficult, and can drop more Elder items if successfully completed. This is now the only way to obtain the Watcher's Eye unique jewel.
