Layout

The layout is based on The Dried Lake. It consists of a few larger areas connected with short narrow paths that sometimes lead into a dead end. The boss doesn't have a separate arena. He waits in a large camp surrounded by palisades.


Encounters

Boss

The Brittle Emperor, based on Voll. Has the following abilities:

  • Powerful slam.
  • Slow ramping up charge.
  • Life leech.
  • Creates patches of desecrated ground under nearby players every 5–6 seconds.
  • Summons and raises Impure Archers and Impure Soldiers.

Strategy

The Brittle Emperor is slightly faster than other bosses based on Voll and he will leech a large amount of life if he keeps killing player minions/totems. A large area around his camp should be cleared beforehand to allow for kiting if necessary. His minions are based on Voll's Vanguard and Voll's Fallen and leave normal corpses. They also teleport back to him when too far away, just like player's minions would.

Depending on strategy, kiting might become necessary because Emperor's summoning spell works in two stages:

  • Impure Archers and Impure Soldiers are summoned until he has at least 10 minions.
  • Impure minions in his vicinity are raised (no limit).

  • The rules used to generate monsters in endgame maps have been significantly reworked and rebalanced around the rate at which we expect players to reliably clear out the map. In general, narrow, linear maps will contain fewer total monsters than maps with complex layouts. We will be closely monitoring and adjusting the balance of this change and expect to make further changes and improvements over time.
